Resumen

Objective: This article has as main objective to characterize the suicide risk in the students of the nursing career at the Catholic University of Cuenca, Cañar extension, and this is a problem that leads to the death of human beings and is one of the causes greater impacton society. Material sandmethods: It is a study of descriptive and cross-sectional study,being the sample 50 nursing students from the Catholic University of Cuenca Cañar extension,with ages between 21 to 35 years, of both genders. For the fulfilment of the objectives, we used the assessment instrument called Test ISO-30 (Inventory of SuicideRisk),which was collectively applied to the study group. This consists of 30 items that responds according to Likert scale and their validation according to the Alpha of Conbrach is of 0.90 and 0.75 for critical items. Results: we have that the presence of suicidal risk was high in a 14.0% of college students,moderate 44.0% and under 42%. Therefore,the total of the population studied,44.0% suicidal ideation,68.0% have low self-esteem and hopelessness,88% present inability of coping and finally the 58.0% of the loneliness, depression, isolation and deterioration in social ties. Conclusions: in the present study, the high and moderate suicide risk is explained by the presence of suicidal ideation in 44 % of the sample, low self-esteem and despair in 68 %, inability to cope with emotions in 88 % .
