N2 - Energy constraint affects significantly the connectivity and operation time in Ad-Hoc Networks. In this sense, there are previous studies that propose optimizations through residual energy information on nodes. However these solutions do not consider some features of wireless environment that increase energy expenditure such as overhearing in interference area of nodes. In this paper, in addition to the energy metric, we propose a new approach called Strategic Nodes, in order to improve energy efficiency in Ad-Hoc Networks based on the OLSR protocol through a better knowledge about wireless environment. Our proposal was implemented and evaluated on the NS3 simulator and results show that our proposal increases energy efficiency due to the reduction of the overhearing effect and also has a positive impact on data traffic transmission in the network.
