La salud y la enfermedad: Una mirada desde los testamentos de mujeres y su representación en la Literatura costumbrista en Cuenca-Ecuador (1860-1900)

Este es artículo es un estudio histórico sobre cómo vivieron las cuencanas la enfermedad de sus cuerpos y cómo es manifestada en su postrera voluntad en Cuenca (1860-1900). Para ello se recurrió al método histórico, desde la perspectiva de la vida cotidiana y el cuerpo, como objeto histórico, con base en 44 testamentos que reposan en el Archivo Nacional de Historia de Cuenca-Ecuador, y al análisis de contenido de textos literarios costumbristas, que completaron las representaciones sobre la enfermedad en la decimonónica sociedad cuencana. Como resultados se observa que la enfermedad es algo que se vive y que se acepta, que forma parte del diario vivir, en donde se hacen necesarios recursos, acciones y personas, pero que se materializa en niveles, generalidades y que es nombrada solo cuando impide algo específico con relación al acto testamentario.This article is a historical study of how women in Cuenca experienced illness in their bodies and how this is manifested in their last wills and testaments in Cuenca (1860-1900). To this end, the historical method was used, from the perspective of everyday life and the body as a historical object, based on 44 wills held in the National History Archive of Cuenca, Ecuador, and the content analysis of literary texts on customs, which completed the representations of illness in nineteenth-century Cuenca society. The results show that illness is something that is experienced and accepted, that it is part of daily life, where resources, actions, and people are necessary, but that it materializes in levels and generalities and is only mentioned when it prevents something specific in relation to the act of making a will.
