N2 - This chapter is focused on the modeling, analysis, and evaluation of the results obtained from the simulation of the national electrical system using the “EnergyPLAN” tool. The models have been developed to determine an optimal and sustainable supply for the coming years in the Ecuadorian energy system. Two dispatch strategies are proposed to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons by increasing the capacity of renewable sources; real data from the current system have been used as a starting point. Subsequently, an increasing demand for the year 2027 including 100,000 electric vehicles for the analysis is considered. The feasibility criteria are based on technical, economic, and environmental indices. The results clearly show the reduction of carbon for the near future, and increasing the capacity of renewable sources up to a certain value is feasible. However, oversizing them is not recommended.
