Resumen

Objective: to determine the prevalence of cognitive impairment, depression, anxiety and its relationship with chronic diseases, of the older adults of the IESS Support Center in Cuenca city. Methods: cross-sectional study was carried out to 398 older adults, the sample was randomized, after the signature of informed consent, data were collected through: interview and application of several instruments to identify: demographics, cognitive impairment, geriatric depression, stress, and morbidity. For the data analysis, the SPSS version 15 program was used, establishing the statistical relationship between the study variables. Results: the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment was 3.5%; of mild depression 10.6% and marked depression 2.3%. The 78.9% of older adults showed some degree of stress; arterial hypertension was the most frequent chronic pathology with 50% of the cases. The relationship between osteoarthrosis and depression was statistically significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: in older adults cognitive impairment and depression had a low prevalence (3.5%), while stress involved 78.9%; the osteoarthritis is statistically significant with depression.
