Abstract
The evolution of tourism destinations towards smart models represents an exceptional opportunity to transform management, planning, and the visitor experience. This chapter explores how tourism intelligence constitutes the core of smart destinations. Far from being a mere technological resource, tourism intelligence enables the optimisation of flows, the promotion of sustainability, the stimulation of innovation, and the assurance of social inclusion in tourism development. The chapter analyses the challenges associated with this topic and proposes a comprehensive approach that combines artificial intelligence (AI), local knowledge, and stakeholder participation. It is a work of particular relevance for destination managers, tourism planners, and academics interested in the intelligent transformation of tourism, as it offers strategic tools and reflections to make the sector more sustainable, resilient, and people-oriented.
