Abstract

The application of environmental practices in tourist destinations is a lesson bequeathed by the pandemic; because the current tourist practice requires a greater commitment to the environment. In the case of the accommodation sector, this reality has been reflected in an ambiguous structural change, a situation that is evident in a World Cultural Heritage city such as Cuenca. The objective of this investigation was to describe the percentage of application of sustainable environmental practices in heritage hotels. The study had a quantitative approach with a descriptive scope through the use of surveys with closed-ended questionnaires; The target population was six hotels located in the City of Cuenca that operate in heritage houses. The results obtained indicate a weakness in the environmental processes of hotel management in the city of Cuenca and little knowledge on issues related to sustainability. It is evident the lack of government support that enables a more sustainable and responsible management, that increases the participation of these establishments in sustainable environmental practices with a view to international certifications.
