N2 - Objective: to describe the perceptions and traditional
practices for pain management of adults suffering from rheumatic diseases in a community of
Saraguro in 2018.Methodology: a qualitative phenomenological study was carried out with
participants suffering from rheumatic pain. For data collection, focus groups and interviews
were carried out. The information was processed in the Atlas.ti 6.2 program.Results: daily
work effort, energy and environmental factors lead to different musculoskeletal pain. In
pain management, medicinal plants are mostly used in rituals with infusions, ointments,
among others.Conclusion: the participants attribute the pain to the imbalance of energy that
affects both the physical and emotional part. Healing must be comprehensive and include
these two components. Medicinal plants are used in various ways to treat chronic pain.
