Nanocomposites in lithium-ion batteries: innovations and advances in energy storage

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have revolutionized energy storage technology, powering a wide range of applications from portable electronic devices to electric vehicles (EVs). As the demand for efficient and high-capacity LIBs continues to grow, nanocomposites have become a crucial research field to enhance the performance and durability of these batteries. This chapter provides an in-depth look at the advances in the development of nanocomposites applied to LIBs. It explores the incorporation of nanomaterials, such as metal oxides, graphene, and other nanostructured components into electrodes, electrolytes, and other LIB components. Their effects on capacity, lifespan, thermal stability, and safety of LIBs are analyzed. Furthermore, emerging applications of LIBs improved with nanocomposites are discussed, including their use in EVs, renewable energy storage, and medical devices. The most recent innovations and future trends in nanocomposite development to drive efficiency and sustainability of LIBs in an increasingly energy-dependent world are highlighted. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive insight into how nanocomposites are transforming the landscape of rechargeable LIBs and their role in energy storage in the future.
