Abstract

Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) represent a promising and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the diverse applications of hydrogen fuel cell technology in the automotive sector. With a focus on FCEVs, we delve into their role in addressing the challenges of global warming, air pollution, and energy sustainability. The review covers the development of hydrogen production and infrastructure, including advancements in clean and sustainable hydrogen generation. A critical analysis of the current state of FCEV technology is presented, highlighting breakthroughs in fuel cell efficiency, storage systems, and overall vehicle design. Key applications explored include passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and public transportation, each showcasing their unique benefits and challenges. The environmental impact of FCEVs is assessed, considering their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. Furthermore, economic and policy aspects are discussed to understand the market dynamics and governmental support for FCEV adoption.
