G. h. Mata: su letra clandestina e irreverente en la construcción de la vida cotidiana de Cuenca (1920-1950)

The links between history and literature are narrow, so the second is presented as a discourse that goes beyond fiction, also describing landscapes, customs, practices, rituals, among others. G. h. Mata was an Ecuadorian writer, poet, essayist, and critic, witness to the changes which took place in the 20th century in Cuenca, Ecuador. His production was characterized by calling into question the practices, ideologies, and artistic production of those considered “great.” In his writing one can hear the voice of complaint for ethnic as well as gender minorities, in other words, peasants, artisans, indigenous people, and women. In this sense, the current article reconstructs, from his literary production, daily life in Cuenca.
