Abstract
In this contribution, we present a spatio-temporal analysis of excess mortality in Ecuador during the period March - July 2020, corresponding to the first 6 months of the COVID-19 epidemic in the country. The results show different phases in the different regions of the territory. A spatial autocorrelation analysis allowed us to observe clusters of high and low values, evidencing the spatial patterns of the epidemic. The results of excess mortality analysis can be incorporated into the epidemiological analysis to improve management strategies for COVID-19 in Ecuador and other countries.
