Abstract
This paper analyzes the transient stability (TS) of a power system that undergoes a utility-scale replacement of its conventional generation matrix with photovoltaic generation (PVG). In response to the reduction in the oscillation damping capability of the system, this paper also proposes the design and implementation of a power system stabilizer (PSS) in the reactive control loop of photovoltaic system converters as PV-STATCOM mode. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) based method was used to tune the PSS, leveraging its parallel computing capability with MATLAB and Simulink. The results obtained after the replacement of the generation matrix show a deterioration in damping capacity, which is satisfactorily mitigated by the implementation of the PSS.
