Heart rate variability and insulin sensitivity in the adult population of basin

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Metabolic syndrome (SM) is becoming one of the main public health problems of the 21st century. The prevalence of the SM is greater in the population of older adults (AM). Prevalence of up to 50% have been reported using the ATP-III criteria in certain regions [1]. Although this population is increasing, in our region it is little studied. This project is first intended to establish the prevalence of SM in older adults in Cuenca. To subsequently establish a multi-parametric protocol that includes the registration of biochemical markers, ECG record, anthropometric measurements and data on nutritional evaluation and physical activity. Through which the variability of heart rate (VFC) and the sensitivity to insulin (SI) of said population and establish relationships between the different registered parameters using multifactorial analysis can be characterized. The proposed protocol allows the study of symptoms that define the SM, insulin sensitivity values, electrocardiographic parameters and biochemical markers. All these can be diagnostic indicators for SM. This study is expected to provide a better quality of life for older people. The results obtained may be of interest to the prevention of SM and their complications in the elderly.
