This project is aimed at contributing to the following strategic areas of FIASA: -Conservation and use of Plant Genetic Resources for Agriculture and Food (PGRFA). Subarea 1: Promotion of plant genetic resources for agriculture and food. -Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer for Seed Production. Subarea 2: Unconventional system (peasant seed). -Sustainable, Sustainable and Efficient Agriculture. Subarea 1. Agricultural production practices (Prevention and integrated pest management; soil and water conservation). Subarea 2. Agroindustry and trade (Value added (Value-added techniques and market studies. Production, processing, transportation and storage of agricultural products); Commercial potential (Alternative marketing circuits. Export promotion, especially of non-traditional native products and species); Effective innovations (Non-traditional agricultural production alternatives). - Nutrition and health. Subarea 3. Nutritional and functional properties of food.
Through a participatory research and innovation proposal with a gender focus, we seek to contribute to the sustainability of the cultivation of tree tomato (Solanum betaceum), promoting the increase in productivity, based on the conservation, characterization, and evaluation of the genetic diversity of tree tomato grown in the country, developing alternatives for comprehensive, phytosanitary, nutritional management, improvement and analysis of the value chain, incorporating added value in region six of Ecuador. To meet the stated objectives, there will be available. Researchers from the Catholic University of Cuenca, the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP), and the University of Cuenca, and the background of experience on the part of the farmers. At the end of the research, the direct benefit will go to the producers of Azuay, and indirect benefits from Cañar and Morona Santiago. the INIAP. Identify emerging pathogens in tree tomatoes. Propose environmentally friendly alternatives in a participatory manner (conventional and non-conventional and comprehensive) for the management of pests and diseases. Characterize soils physically-chemically and biologically to identify the relationship that may exist between productivity-ecotypes of tree tomatoes and the quality of the soils where they are grown, potentiating the response to the application of bio inputs, selected as suitable for the cultivation of tree tomatoes. Marketing of agricultural products in general is not fair to farmers, so an investigation of the value chain, production costs and market will be carried out. It will be proposed to incorporate added value to the fruit harvested by producers to improve the cost benefit. In addition to all these results, the local knowledge of producers in the sustainable management of the crop will be strengthened, to produce either peasant seeds and/or tree tomato seedlings of the promising ecotypes selected by the project. context, it is estimated to develop undergraduate thesis on topics inherent to the Project; Five scientific articles, closing the three years of research with an International Congress on tree tomato cultivation and its future projection, with the participation of national specialists, project researchers, experiences of fruit producers, nurserymen, as well as international researchers.
