BACKGROUND
STRESS URINARY INCONTINENCE (SUI) IS A PREVALENT DISORDER IN ADULT WOMEN, WITH AN IMPACT ON THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE, BY COMPROMISING THE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND FUNCTIONAL SPHERES. DESPITE ITS HIGH PREVALENCE, IT CONTINUES TO BE NEGLECTED AND UNDERDIAGNOSED, IN PART DUE TO STIGMA AND LACK OF EARLY DETECTION, PREVENTIVE AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS. IN THIS SENSE, A LITTLE STUDY CONDITION WHICH TO FAR IS A COMMON FACTOR IN PATIENTS, IS THE UROBIOME, WHICH HAS SHOWN A RELATIONSHIP WITH VARIOUS PATHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS, AND SUGGESTS A POSSIBLE LINK WITH THE FUNCTION OF THE PELVIC FLOOR. HOWEVER, THESE FACTORS ARE NOT INTEGRATED, LIMITING THEIR APPROACH.
OBJECTIVE AND METHODOLOGY:
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT IS TO CHARACTERIZE THE UROBIOME THROUGH METAGENOMIC SEQUENCING IN ADULT WOMEN WITH AND WITHOUT STRESS URINARY INCONTINENCE AND EVALUATE ITS POTENTIAL AS A FUNCTIONAL MARKER OF THE PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLES; THROUGH AN OBSERVATIONAL, ANALYTICAL AND CROSS-SECTIONAL DESIGN. THE METHODOLOGY CONTEMPLATES THE APPLICATION OF QUESTIONNAIRES, BIOFEEBACK AND METAGENOMIC ANALYSIS OF THE UROBIOME THROUGH 16 SRRNA SEQUENCING. QUALITY CONTROLS AND COMPUTER ANALYSIS WOULD BE INCLUDED TO IDENTIFY DIFFERENTIAL PATTERNS OF MICROBIAL DIVERSITY.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
THEY INCLUDE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE UROBIOME, DESCRIPTION OF THE FUNCTIONAL STATE OF THE PELVIC FLOOR AND THE IDENTIFICATION OF POSSIBLE MICROBIAL BIOMARKERS THAT ALLOW ACCESS TO A BIOINFORMATICS AND DATA BASE.
CONCLUSION:
IT IS EXPECTED TO CHARACTERIZE THE UROBIOME IN WOMEN WITH SUI AND ANALYZE ITS POSSIBLE INFLUENCE ON THE FUNCTION OF THE PELVIC FLOOR, WITH A BASIS FOR FUTURE PREVENTIVE OR THERAPEUTIC STRATEGIES.
