Description

The project "Colored lands. Development of production and training processes for the use of paintings with mineral pigments", aims to contribute to the knowledge of production, application and use of land paintings in the Oña and Susudel region, both for the conservation of heritage and for its application in contemporary architecture. It aims to study ancestral knowledge by collecting the testimonies of people and builders who use the earth empirically for the maintenance of heritage. In Susudel and its region, there are mineral pigments with varied colors such as: ocher, orange, red, pink, yellow, green, violet, white, among others. In a second phase, the research will characterize the materials, identifying 3 mineral -based pigments, in which physical and chemical analyzes will be performed. With the results obtained, dosages of land paints will be developed, using natural binders plus an industrial one. The experiments will apply on supports to evaluate resistance to superficial abrasion, coverage power, color and exposure to the environment. Subsequently, an entrepreneurship process will be designed, identifying at least one alternative for the production of land paints that can be applied by the Susudel community. Based on the fulfillment of the above objectives, the members of the communities of Oña and Susudel will be trained in the production processes of this type of paintings, ending with the formulation of a basic manual that collects the results obtained in the investigation. This project is multi and transdisciplinary and adds efforts of the Faculty of Architecture, (VLIRCPM project), the Faculty of Chemical Sciences, the Federal University of Viçosa - Minas Gerais - Brazil and the GAD de Oña (Oña - Susudel). The technical dimension for the understanding of existing materials in the region and their applications will be confronted with economic, aesthetic, social and patrimonial visions.
