Project Details
Description
This research project proposal aims to design a structural health monitoring system for essential buildings in the city of Cuenca. The proposal represents a second stage that gives continuity to the previous project entitled "Design and implementation of a station for microsismicity monitoring, using IoT devices and wireless sensor networks". The analysis scenario for the execution of the project will consist of the building of the Regional Centersur Electric Company, which has been selected due to the importance of the management tasks and technical operations that are developed on the site. In particular, the stations designed in the previous project will be replicated, which will allow the deployment of a network of sensors. The optimal number and location of the nodes will be defined by recognition of the architectural and structural characteristics of the building. Experiments will be designed to evaluate and adjust the synchronization of the stations, considering the standards applied to seismic events. From the data captured by the stations, a continuous event registration system will be formed. Regarding information processing, an experimental modal analysis strategy based on the seismic events detected will be applied. This information will allow adjusting the instrumentation deployed on the building in terms of number of stations and location. Additionally, the modal analysis will allow obtaining the fundamental vibration parameters on the structures. This information is essential to define future intervention strategies to mitigate the effects and damages derived from earthquakes. It is also highlighted that the proposal is a fundamental step towards implementing an early alert system.
