Water Safety in the Tabacay River sub -basin in times of global changes

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

While there are numerous previous studies on the impacts of change in land use and climate change on water security, these have been carried out separately. Therefore, there are few research that analyzes these impacts caused jointly by the two changes in different scenarios. At the regional level and specifically in Andean basins there is very little literature of integral evaluations of areas of water importance influenced by the interaction of changes in the coverage of the soil and its socio -economic causality of the population, and the changes in the climate. This project aims to improve the understanding of the patterns of these changes and link this knowledge with hydrological patterns that delimit areas of water importance for the population. This approach will be applied in the Tabacay River Basin, located in the south of the Ecuadorian Andes, hoping to obtain results that can be used for decision -making in the sub -basin that allow to boost the construction of policies for the protection and preservation of these areas through the formulation of legal and economic strategies for the sustainability of hydrological services for the population of the Azogues canton.
