Theoretical-methodological proposal for the strategic analysis of territorial sustainability

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

To address territorial sustainability in an integral way, it is necessary to develop a strategic analysis system that characterizes the territories in their economic, environmental, social and cultural dimensions. The existing literature on this issue has focused mainly on an economic and anthropocentric approach, leaving aside key aspects such as environmental sustainability and social and gender equity. In response to this theoretical and methodological limitation, a system that integrates biophysical, socioeconomic and sociocultural indicators is proposed, in order to manage the territories more balanced. This research presents a proposal to fill the void by creating a system of strategic analysis of territorial sustainability, operating from a systemic approach. The system is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the SDGs 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life of Terrestrial Ecosystems), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and ODS 5 (achieve equality between genres). It seeks to characterize the territories according to their degree of sustainability and generate useful information for the formulation of territorial public policies. The development of the system contemplates the definition of categories, dimensions and indicators in the biophysical, economic, social and cultural areas. In addition, the system will be validated in indigenous and peasant communities, allowing territorial management that incorporates local knowledge and principles of agroecology, rights of nature and social justice. This approach facilitates dialogue between communities and external actors, promoting a more inclusive and resilient territorial development.
