Punctual prevalence of nosocomial infections at the regional hospital "Vicente Corral Moscoso" in the city of Cuenca and its economic impact, 2002 - 2003

This project is a descriptive epidemiological study on nosocomial infections that occur at the Vicente Corral Moscoso hospital in the city of Cuenca and its economic impact. It is understood as a nosocomial infection to that which manifests itself in a patient 72 hours after their entry into a health house, considering that the patient at the time of admission did not present an incubation of it. For the present study, the timely prevalence of nosocomial infections will be determined, (number of people with certain pathology at a given time, this value is divided for the population exposed to risk and multiplied by 100). In addition, the means of contagion and the etiology of this will be established, through: blood crops, secretions, contaminated material (probes, venoclysis equipment, etc.) and others that are necessary, subsequently will be carried out by the agent, through macroscopic, microscopic properties and biochemical tests; In addition, sensitivity and resistance of the isolated bacteria to different antibiotics will be established. Finally, there will be an approach to the economic impact that these infections have in the hospital. They will be studied as variables: nosocomial infection, nosocomial bacteria, hospital area, bacterial resistance, age, sex and origin. The results will be presented in tables and graphs and for its analysis descriptive statistical measures will be used.
