Prevalence, genotipification and effects of human papillomavirus in the sperm quality of men attending a fertility clinic in the city of Cuenca.

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This study aims to investigate the presence, genotipification and effects of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the sperm quality of men treated in a fertility clinic in the city of Cuenca. The main objective is to determine the prevalence of the HPV, identify specific genotypes and evaluate their association with alterations in seminal parameters and sperm DNA fragmentation. For this, urine and semen samples of men who attend the fertility clinic will be collected, and molecular diagnostic techniques will be used to detect the presence of HPV and determine the present genotypes. The results obtained from semen and urine samples will be compared to evaluate the concordance between both diagnostic methods. In addition, seminal parameters, such as sperm motility, morphology and sperm concentration, will be analyzed to investigate whether the presence of HPV is related to alterations in sperm quality. The fragmentation of spermatic DNA will also be evaluated as a possible effect of the virus on the genetic integrity of sperm. The results of this research will contribute to improving the understanding of the effects of HPV on male fertility and will help develop more effective strategies for the diagnosis of this infection in men
