Prevalence of the MEARES-IRLEN-STRESS VISUAL (MISVIS) syndrome that affect reading in children from 7 to 9 years and their correction with the Irlen method, schools in the urban area. Cuenca 2014

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The main purpose of this study is to determine in a first phase the prevalence of visual perceptual distortions that affect reading in the children of the third grade (7-9 years) of public and private schools in the urban area of the city of Cuenca through the application of anamnesis and the perceptual scale of IREN reading. The second phase of the study is framed in the intervention with the Irlen method, the application of color acetates, for the correction-elimination of perceptual visual distortions. A sample of three hundred and fifty students of the third degrees of basic education, as well as parents and teachers will participate in this research. Anamnesis and five of the seven tests of the Irlen reading perceptual scale (EPLI) will be applied to the group of schoolchildren to determine the presence of visual perceptual distortions that affect reading. At the end of this study, the prevalence of these distortions will be identified in less, greater than or equal to 12% of the student population in the basin school system and the IRlen method will be applied in order to partially eliminate perceptual visual distortions and facilitate reading.
