Project Details

Description

Health personnel are at risk of latex sensitization present in gloves, probes, catheters, etc. The exposure is also frequent in the extra -labor environment. The most exposed are the ones who work in operating rooms, clinical laboratories, and dental health. Atopy and crossed reactions with fruit allergy increase the risk of awareness. The prevalence sensitization to latex is 3 to 6% in general population,> 10% in atopics and up to 30% in health personnel. In the Clinical Hospital of the University of Chile, the principal researcher found 25% latex sensitization in operating room personnel. This study aims to know the prevalence and risk factors for latex sensitization to propose preventive measures. Atopy will be identified, sources of latex exposure, belonging to other risk groups and cross reactivity with fruits by questionnaire. Subsequently, cutaneous tests (prick test and patch) will be performed to diagnose latex sensitization and food involved in latex-fruits syndrome. The information will be subjected to univariate analysis (averages, standard deviations or percentages) and the degree of association between latex awareness and other variables will be measured, by means of a square chi (tablecloth-Haenszel) and logistics regression.
