Description

The electrical transmission system plays a fundamental role in promoting a sustainable energy transition. However, the construction of new transmission infrastructure is a big problem, not only in Ecuador, but also worldwide. As such, the current process of decision -making of the expansion of the transmission network (TNEP), a weakness in the planning of the current system, must be improved. Therefore, having adequate decisions tools can help accelerate the transmission infrastructure development process that supports the rapid growth in renewable energy demand in Ecuador. The project aims to develop mathematical models of optimization of transmission expansion planning, holistically considering new technologies such as HVDC, HVAC, compensation for reactive power, energy storage systems, multiple voltage systems, and uncertainty. The project results will be obtained using electrical test networks and the Ecuadorian electric transmission system. This project is a continuation of past projects and complements a parallel initiative that will be carried out by some of the project members.
