Active mobility patterns and urban environment: feet and pedals 2

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Mobility is one of the most complex challenges of intermediate cities, especially in those with historical and heritage value. The promotion of active mobility (on foot and by bicycle) has been proposed as a key strategy to face this challenge, and although previous research at the local level has given significant advances in recent years, planners still do not have effective information and methodological tools to analyze, plan and evaluate intervention strategies appropriate to the local context. This proposal seeks to consolidate and deepen the study of spatial behavior and perceptions of active mobility in basin from a multidisciplinary dimension and produce scientific evidence for sustainable mobility policies. A conceptual model of interactions between key factors will be built to establish a potential set of determining variables to three analysis scales (individual, neighborhood and city). In addition, a mobility data analysis toolbox will be developed and statistical and data mining methods will be applied to analyze and represent the relationship between factors, mobility and urban environment. Finally, comprehensive urban design strategies for active mobility and tactical urbanism actions will be proposed in a pilot neighborhood of the city. Solly based on previous successful experiences, the present study will represent a stage of maturation in the research on the relationship between mobility, public space and the quality of urban life. The results of the investigation will be of high relevance for other intermediate cities in the region.
