Project Details
Description
One of the main problems that arise for the production of biofuels, is the lack of low -cost technology that allows obtaining high reaction yields towards the production of monosaccharides in the first stage of the treatment of agricultural waste. In this context, this project aims to improve the reaction of acid hydrolysis to obtain greater performance towards monosaccharides, through the application of ionic fluids, which do not have steam pressure, so it is considered that they do not emit potentially toxic volatile organic compounds, making them effective for "green" synthetic procedures. It will work with the residual biomass of the four main permanent crops of Ecuador, first performing a sampling in the predetermined sites. The samples collected will be subjected to a pretreatment (drying and grinding) that will allow its conservation and facilitate its use in the reaction of acid hydrolysis. Pretrated residual biomass will be structurally characterized to determine the content of hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin, for the subsequent reaction of hydrolysis in optimal conditions, obtained from the revised literature. Subsequently, experimentation will be carried out with the application of ionic fluids in residual biomass, a mixture in which the concentration of ionic fluid, time and solution temperature will be controlled, which will allow raising yields towards monosaccharides in the acid hydrolysis reaction. In the end, a database will be given as a result with the parameters with which the best results of the reaction for each type of residual biomass have been obtained
