Description

The objective of this study is to determine the risk factors of childhood obesity in the city of Cuenca. Material and method: A cross -sectional study will be carried out. The exhibition will be random and representative of children in the city of Cuenca. The nutritional status will be valued based on the criteria of the 2007 World Health Organization. The economic level will be determined with a modified short questionnaire of the INEC (Ecuadorian Institute of Statistics and Census). Physical activity habits will be evaluated with a validated questionnaire in children of this age group in Chile. Expected results: Description of the economic level. Description of physical activity habits in schoolchildren. Evaluation of nutritional status and waist circumference in children from 6 to 9 years of age. Description of the influence of the economic level and the habits of physical activity on the nutritional status of children, and the metabolic risk determined by the waist circumference. Conclusion: Child obesity is related to low economic level and bad habits of physical activity. The data obtained will serve as a baseline for future research and will also allow to develop intervention projects focused on improving physical activity habits in this age group to prevent chronic noncommunicable diseases.
