In the Electro generating company of Austro Elecaustro S.A. There is a need to update the computer tool currently used for hydro-energy planning of the Machágara hydroelectric complex (CHM), mainly due to the following reasons: 1. The current planning, operation and dispatch conditions of electric plants are no longer based on a cost market, which includes plants with dispatch and preferred cost; 2. Modification in the minimum water requirements for human consumption and irrigation for the city of Cuenca; 3. Improvements in the infrastructure of the Machágara Hydroelectric Complex (CHM) as the insertion of the Saymirín V hydroelectric power plant and increased water transport capacity of the carved driving channel-tuñi; 4. New social and environmental requirements; 5. Need to provide for means of adaptation to the impacts of climate change analyzed in the Machágara basin as a preventive measure in the increase in hydro-meteorological ends such as droughts and floods; And, finally 6. The technological advance in computer tools to solve multi-varyable optimization problems. This is why the University of Cuenca responding to the deep demands of society and contemporary scientific challenges with research projects, it has been proposed to work together with ELECAUSTRO to generate computer tools for optimization of the water resource with a sustainability approach in the Machágara river basin. The expected results of this project are the generation of optimal operating policies of the Chanlud reservoirs and the work for the production of hydroenergy, which direct and facilitate the planning of the management of water resources in the Machágara river basin. As well as the transfer of knowledge by making a publication in an indexed magazine and a presentation at an academic event.
