Description
The application of sustainable indicators in urban developments, supports nature friendly practices and contributes to improving the quality of life of people, with which the high amounts of raw material and energy resources, which consume cities with their consequent emissions of solid gas and waste, can be diminished or avoided. These great benefits have generated a wide development of tools and indicators, however, there is no scientific consensus on how to implement them in local contexts, or how to develop them without being out of an international framework. The contribution of the present investigation is based on the importance of the regionalization of indicators and their integration into evaluation methods. The research methodology, as a strategy to develop indicators that are integrated into the context and nourish international lessons, proposes 3 stages: the first stage, identifies the evaluation methods for sustainable urban developments and their international indicators to propose an evaluation structure, the second stage studies the town to select and contextualize the indicators, and finally, local priorities are defined for indicators and evaluation issues. The research results will deliver sustainable indicators appropriate for the town and will be integrated into an evaluation method that may serve as a basis for future regional developments and adaptations in the field of sustainable urbanism.
