Project Details

Description

This research project proposes an innovative approach in the analysis of the relationship between the built environment and the social functioning that occurs in public space, through the application of technological tools to study the pedestrian mobility patterns that occur in the historic center of the city of Cuenca. Through the interdisciplinary methodology proposed under a socio -spatial approach, an analysis of the pedestrian mobility patterns in the public space of the Historic Center of Cuenca will be carried out as a general context, to later concentrate the observations in the Calderón Park located within the study area. The qualitative information collected in the ethnographic work will be the database for the development of the digital model with the Space Syntax tool, whose result will allow to know the complex forms of self-organization that administer the pedestrians always affected by a physical environment where social life is developed and from where it is possible to evaluate the effects on everyday life generated by the execution of urban policies applied in matters of mobility and public space.
