Baseline lifting in analysis of toxic metals, anions and pesticides in tomato, onion and potato samples

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Among the different pollutants found in the environment, some metals are those that have the greatest risk to health and life. Toxic metals from natural or anthropogenic sources are rapidly disseminated in the environment; From the environment they reach the population directly through the soil and water or indirectly through the foods that have occurred in contaminated media or that have been fumigated with commercial products made based on organometallic compounds. Currently, some anions that are used in large quantity such as fertilizer in intensive and/or hydroponic crops, typically nitrates and phosphates, are also a potential danger. The project is intended to determine the absorption rate of toxic metals and tomato, onion and two varieties of potatoes, from fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. As the first stage of the investigation, a screning will be made of the presence of the aforementioned pollutants, in tomatoes, onions and potatoes issued at different points of Expended. To determine the actual absorption rate of toxic metals, ions and pesticides in the final product, plots of selected potatoes will be sown on the Nero or Irquis farm of the University of Cuenca, the study in controlled conditions will be carried out only in Pope, due to the least demanding conditions required by the crop. An experimental design will be used to give different treatments to the potato variety that will be used and thus expose the results to the hypotheses raised. For metal determination, the inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy technique will be used with a table spectrometer (ICP-MS).
