Virtual city and territory laboratory. Phase i

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The influence of technological changes is visualized in all aspects that concern society, including education. Although there have been successful applications of information and communication technologies in this area, there are topics such as the practical application of knowledge obtained in research that has not yet been resolved at all and even more in the field of territorial and urban planning. Thus, it is common to find countless difficulties when carrying out a transmission of research results or most potential users (whose access to scientific material is limited), and even the limitations that the instances in charge of planning in the country have to communicate their methodological proposals and validate them in an academic environment. An alternative solution to this problem is the creation of virtual laboratories that, through a web junction, facilitate not only the experimentation and practical application of knowledge, but also that they contribute to the study and understanding of the city and the territory. In this context, the Virtual Laboratory of City and Territory is an initiative that seeks to facilitate the understanding of scientific developments and methodological proposals, through information and communication technologies through providing researchers, teachers, students and professionals with both the public and private sector, a means that allows observing, experiencing and understanding the behavior of the territorial and urban system and the interrelation of the variables that they involve. The virtual laboratory will consist of four modules: one destined to the construction of urban and territorial models carried out based on the research developed by the participating universities as well as the methodological proposals of the guiding instances of planning in the country; A second module will allow the creation of scenarios from the current urban and territorial models, which allow facilitating the determination of local strategies and policies; In a third module it will allow, through multicriterium analysis, to identify alternatives for the location of infrastructure and equipment; And finally, a space will be available to a forum for the interaction between the website and the users who access the application to analyze the results obtained. It should be noted that different users (GAD technicians, professionals in the field of planning, teachers, researchers, students, among others) will be able to load the information to carry out simulations in the different options, in turn, the results obtained may be shared for analysis. This proposal will shorten distances between the academic field and the potential beneficiaries of the proposals that are raised in the universities, but will also help the dissemination and validation of the methodological proposals that institutions such as Senplades propose.
