Standardized integration of information from different sources. Study case: geographic information at the regional level

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

One of the consequences of globalization, product of the explosive use of the technology called the Internet, is the need to have an ordering and standardization of all the information generated. The lack of these mechanisms has caused uncoordination between producers and cost overruns for users who need to obtain the data. In addition, in most entities there are no clear, accessible and standardized dissemination channels with what has been obtained, that a large amount of information has been reduced to a single use, being unknown by other potential users. Despite the appearance of new forms of geographic information management, the situation has not improved, but to some extent this problem has increased because the digital support editions that are obtained and exchanged remain scarce and prices have only triggered themselves. In recent years there has been a strong demand for geographic information. And not only are new spatial analysis technologies, but also the companies that require information, star in the most important investments for capturing these data. We are therefore at a time when there is an important unsatisfied demand, which we must face through the design and implementation of a tool that allows in a standard way, to store the data with all the wealth they contain and, in addition, allow us to exchange and take advantage of this information easily between the departments that make up the company and between different organizations. To reach that, the different methods of storage and exchange of internationally recognized information will be studied, developing specific tools to solve this need.
