Description
This project is included in the research activities of the Child Development Center of the University of Cuenca (CEDIUC) (1) The association between neonatal asphyxiation (risk) and alterations in psychoneurosensorial development (disability), will be investigated through a coherent prosperous study, for which two similar groups will be formed in relation to some variables that may have a disturbing effect on the causal association raised in the hypothesis. The variable that will distinguish groups is irrigation representing in this case by suffocation. One group will be subject to that risk and the other will not be. The RNs, exposed to the risk will be detected in the Obstetrics and Neonatology services of the Vicente Corral M Hospital. These children will be evaluated by the multidisciplinary team made up of: neonatologist, pediatrician, neurologist, psychologist and psychologist (a) of the Evaluation and Monitoring Unit (UES) of the CEDIUC. To establish a probability of association between risk and psychoneurosensorial alteration, it will be compared to the RN group, exposed with another that is not and will be selected from the same health center where the former come from. Both the cases exposed and those of the comparison group will be followed by a period of three years. Children who have obvious alterations will be referred to the areas of early stimulation, language therapy, nutrition, psychology, pediatrics, physiotherapy and others who will work together in the CEDIUC team when the case warrants it. The three -year monitoring will be done for purposes that enter the program will undergo a follow -up until the age of 7 years.
