Description

Unregulated deforestation is considered as the main cause of the deterioration of accelerated lands, ending in erosion processes that produce sediments in the causes of the rivers. To contribute to the sustainable management of woody vegetation resources at the level of hydrographic basins, the development of methods and tools for territorial planning is considered primary, adapted to the physical and socio-economic conditions of the Ecuadorian Andes. This research wants to meet this objective through a reconstruction and characterization of deforestation and afforestation processes, consolidating it in a spatial database. This analysis will be carried out by developing a hybrid method that combines the advantages of participatory mapping with the agility of a geographical information system. By thundering the forms for the workshops and semi-structured interviews and the mapping process itself, the integration of the results in the geographical information system is facilitated and in the geodata base that forms the nucleus of the space-temporal analysis. The novelty of this process is that, in this way, data obtained at the community level can be faced with regional data, at the level of the hydrographic basin and from other communities. Local governments may consult maps at the level of the hydrographic basin that provide information on the space-time perceptions of communities within the basin, on the historical, current and future state of natural resources. Products of this investigation will be: a compilation of historical data, a manual for participatory and georefrenned mapping, a spatial database and a diagnosis of the causative forces of the processes of deforestation and afforestation. The results will be validated in the field for the particular case of the Tabacay River Hydrographic Basin.
