Description

The project "Evaluation of the performance of paintings based on mineral pigments in different supports", aims to contribute to the knowledge of production, application and use of land paintings in the southern region of Ecuador, both for the conservation of heritage and for its application in contemporary architecture. In the southern part of Ecuador, there are mineral pigments with varied colors, some of them rare, which can be observed in land buildings painted with these materials, however there are very few scientific studies in this regard. For this project, six dosages of paintings with mineral pigments, three different colors: cream, terracotta and green, prepared with animal tail and white tail as binder, supports manufactured in various materials used in earth constructions: traditional fog with preparation layer, earth-water, and cement with filling, and the joint performance performance will be evaluated, and paint paint before environmental conditions will be applied. Paintings and supports will be characterized through electronic microscopy and X-ray diffraction, to know their nature and relate them to their properties and performance in use. This interdisciplinary project, adds efforts of the Faculty of Architecture, (World Heritage City and Center for Research-Cina), the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage.
