Evaluation of the technical efficiency of milk production in the Ecuadorian Sierra

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The objective of the project will be the determination of technical efficiency in the Ecuadorian Sierra and the factors that affect it. To this end, the official databases of the survey of surface and agricultural production continues in the 2014 - 2016 period of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) will be used, with a level of geographical disaggregation at the provincial and cantonal level, where the sampling of the units has been carried out by means of the multiple sampling framework methodology. For the determination of technical efficiency, the use of non -parametric technique called data surround analysis with Output orientation, through the use of Bootstrap simulation techniques and the application of genetic algorithms to determine the variables that will intervene in the model with the use of the R program and the ®ssps program, will be used to use technical efficiency. The expected results imply the determination of non -existent information related to technical efficiency in dairy production at the regional level in Ecuador, in addition to the characterization of efficient dairy products detected by the analysis. Additionally, added value will be provided to the basis agricultural databases of a public and free access. The future impact is expected in the contribution to the construction of public policies in the agricultural field in the main provinces and cantons of milk in the country, where prefectures and municipalities have greater influence. Finally the project will publish an article in an indexed magazine.
