Socio -environmental studies in the upper basin of the paute

The environmental services provided by the ecosystems of the upper basin of the paute are of such importance and magnitude for Cuenca, the Azuay and the world, so much so that a sustainable management requires a better understanding and knowledge of its current state and its dynamics from an economic perspective, through analysis based on environmental indicators; It is also important to determine what relationship exists between the systems for the use of agricultural and forest resources and the degradation of protected areas. This program aims to initiate (systematically and in stages) the economic knowledge of natural resources and traditional systems for the use of agricultural resources at the level of the hydrographic basin starting through the area of the Cajas National Park, the sub -basin of the Machángara and the geographical area that corresponds to the upper basin of the PAUTE; For which it is proposed to do so through three projects (i) quantification and economic assessment of natural resources in protected areas; (Ii) construction of environmental indicators; And, (iii) identification of traditional systems of agricultural and forestry use in the upper basin of the paute, using for this, the methods that environmental science recommends.
