Description

This project proposes a theoretical and analytical reflection, collected in academic texts, as well as an investigation-creation of a documentary, focused on the cultural value of citizenship/consumption and what in painting is called still life or dead nature. Specifically, it is about investigating and cinematography of the "arrangements" of products and goods, as symbolic dimensions of citizen training, that retail, formal and informal merchants, carry out in a supply market and stores in the city of Cuenca and its surroundings; These arrangements, at the same time that are merchandise, that is, objects endowed with an economic exchange value, it is possible to look at them in their use or symbolic value, and this in at least two dimensions: citizen and aesthetic formation; The latter from the tradition of the pictorial/cinematographic still life and the implementation (of the real). This proposal will host the research method based on arts or artistic research, with social and citizen impact. In the field of theory highlights consumers and citizens. Multicultural conflicts of globalization (1995) by Néstor García Canclini and his thesis on the formation of citizen identities through consumption, and the concept of anthropocene (Crutzen and Stoermer, 2000; Trischler, 2017); While in the field of cinema, among others, the image-time (1985, Deleuze), the representation of reality (1997, Nichols), the documentary drive (2022, León) stand out. This proposal then raises a reflection on the relations between retail and art, which, being part of the circulation of goods and consumption, also create symbolic imaginary citizenship through arrangements or still lifes, where the film image becomes an instrument to mediate-visible that economic, cultural and symbolic dimension.
