Description

INTRODUCTION: Older adults are a vulnerable population that has increased in recent decades worldwide, their nutritional status being a risk to face potential threats in their health which depends on the economic conditions in which they develop. Objective: Evaluate the nutritional status of older adults in the province of Azuay and associated factors according to economic quintile. Methodology: A cross -sectional study will be carried out in 400 older adults. Anthropometric measurements will be made and validated surveys will be applied, to collect demographic data and associated factors; Physical activity through the IPAQ in its short version, Katz Index to determine Barthel dependence and index level to assess independence, to establish food security: the Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale (ELCSA), for the evaluation of the socioeconomic state the stratification survey of the socioeconomic level of the INEC will be used. Older adults will be excluded with psychiatric diseases, alteration of the state of consciousness and/or cognitive disability. The results will be analyzed in the SPSS version 15.0 program, using frequency distribution, central tendency (mean) and dispersion (standard diversion). To look for association, Odds Ratio (OR) will be used with its 95% confidence interval and for statistical significance, the Square Chi with its M Multivariated Logistic Regression. Expected results: Updated information on the nutritional status of older adults is expected to associate the results to the economic quintile and estimate the prevalence of food insecurity in their homes.
