Cranometric maps elaboration from volumetric tomographies for the three -dimensional digital facial approach, of an archaeological skull found in Pumapungo.

Project Details

Description

The high -resolution medical images that are obtained by computed cone tomography of the craniofacial massif, are used as auxiliary studies in the diagnosis and in surgical planning, since they allow obtaining three -dimensional digital models and physical models by 3D printing known as stereolithographic models, of 1: 1 scale of the scanned anatomical structure, from the dicom type file Highly specialized surgical protocols. More than these clinical applications have begun to be used as research and teaching tools, in anthropological, biomedical research, forensic identification and the realization of virtual autopsies of human archaeological remains. The knowledge of the cranic and cephalometric determinations of the current population constitutes the basis for the digital facial approach of archaeological bone remains by being able to calculate the thickness of facial soft tissues as well as its morphological characteristics. The research of the digital facial approach has been used to give faces to historical characters, in our environment this physical anthropology exercise has not been carried out, so that being able to know the facial approach of our ancestors would constitute a technical and research challenge that would lead us to link the face of the past with our current culture and identity.
