Description
SARCOPENIA IS A MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDER CHARACTERIZED BY THE PROGRESSIVE LOSS OF MUSCLE STRENGTH, MUSCLE MASS AND PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF FALLS AND FUNCTIONAL DISABILITY IN OLDER ADULTS. THE PROPOSED STUDY SEEKS TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF TWO ADAPTED EXERCISE PROGRAMS ON OLDER ADULTS WITH IESS SARCOPENIA IN CUENCA, ECUADOR. AN EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN IS PRESENTED WITH THREE GROUPS (TWO INTERVENTION AND ONE CONTROL) AND PRE AND POST INTERVENTION MEASUREMENTS. 90 OLDER ADULTS WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF SARCOPENIA WILL PARTICIPATE RANDOMLY DISTRIBUTED INTO: A) GROUP A WITH MULTILATERAL STRENGTH EXERCISES, B) GROUP B WITH AEROBIC EXERCISES AND C) CONTROL GROUP. DEPENDENT VARIABLES INCLUDE HAND GRIP STRENGTH MEASURED BY DYNAMOMETRY, MUSCLE MASS EVALUATED WITH BIOIMPEDANCE, PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE THROUGH WALKING SPEED, AND FUNCTIONAL PHYSICAL ABILITY USING THE SENIOR FITNESS TEST BATTERY. THE STATISTICAL ANALYSIS WILL BE PERFORMED WITH IBM SPSS V27, APPLYING DESCRIPTIVE MEASURES (AVERAGE, STANDARD DEVIATION) AND INFERENTIAL ANALYSIS WITH ANOVA 3 X 2 TO STUDY THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE GROUPS AND THE MEASUREMENTS ON THE DEPENDENT VARIABLES OF INTEREST. FOLLOW-UP TESTS (POST HOC) WILL BE PERFORMED IF STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT INTERACTIONS ARE FOUND. THE PRECISION OF THE ESTIMATES WILL BE DETERMINED WITH THE 95% CONFIDENCE INTERVALS AND THE STATISTICAL SIGNIFICANCE P < 0.05. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY WILL ALLOW THE EFFECT OF THE INTERVENTIONS TO BE BASED ON OLDER ADULTS WITH SARCOPENIA, WITH A DISSEMINATION PLAN ADDRESSED TO PROFESSIONALS, THE COMMUNITY AND AUTHORITIES TO ENSURE THE APPLICATION OF THE KNOWLEDGE GENERATED.
