Description
The first years of schooling are receiving more attention in Ecuador, a country that has developed several public policies aimed at improving the quality of initial and basic education. In this context, the low level of performance of Ecuadorian children and young people in national and international tests in the area of mathematics is worrisome. Reports of several investigations indicate that the first year children of basic (5-6 years) are capable of developing a complex mathematical thought and that their mathematics performance at this level strongly predicts the future school performance both in mathematics and in reading. This has led several countries to review their curriculum for this area and level and improve the performance of their children in mathematics and therefore to improve their academic performance in all schooling. Therefore, a review of the Ecuadorian curriculum for the first year of basic education in the area of mathematics is considered necessary in order to improve the basic skills that our children are developing. This project will be carried out in the city of Cuenca-Ecuador and intends: i) Diagnose the performance area (number and arithmetic) of the children who attend the first year of basic at the beginning and at the end Successfully and iii) Design a program for children to receive better educational experiences from the first years that allow them to build concepts and skills so that they can perform as well as children of their age in other countries.
