Description
Globalization has created a new paradigm in which migrants interact in a transnational space, breaking the traditional scheme of origin and destination. In these transnational fields, the transmigrant operates with social support networks throughout its migratory life. However, transnational social life lacks well developed transnational social protection that gives responses to vulnerability situations. Despite the growth of mobility, the definition of a transnational social protection system is still incipient, the coverage of socially recognized needs, mostly, follow the logic of the national state that do not contemplate transnationality. Thus, it seems that it is the informal networks that end up assuming the role of protectors. The global economic crisis initiated in 2007 was disseminated to the countries of the Global North ", having serious consequences in the United States and Spain (main destinations of Ecuadorian migration). This context, not only modifies migratory flows but also causes vulnerability conditions for transmigrants. The low literature on these networks urges us to analyze them in relation to the migratory process, the sociodemographic variables, stories Migratory and the socioeconomic and political context.
