Determination of particulate material PM10, PM2.5 and noise in the Cuenca canton

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The deterioration of air quality due to the presence of polluting substances has a negative effect on human health and the environment, in this sense the present research aims to determine the quality of the ambient air of the city of Cuenca, for this the concentrations of total suspended particles (PST), PM10 will be determined; PM 2,5 and the sound pressure levels in forty -one points of the city, considering the urban and rural area of the canton, for the monitoring of the PST will apply the method of concentration measurement of contaminants air criteria, established in Table 2 of the standard of ambient air quality (Unified text of Secondary Environmental Legislation Tulas VI Book VI Annex 4), the concentrations of PM10 and PM2. From a Dustscan Scout Aerosol Monitor, which has an optical laser sensor, the monitoring period will be fifteen minutes with each filter; Sound pressure levels will be determined by using a Testo 350 brand soundometer, the measurement will be carried out for a period of ten minutes in each of the study sites. The weather conditions of the Station of the Center for Environmental Studies of the University of Cuenca will be obtained, the concentration values and sound pressure levels will be compared to the limits stipulated in the national regulations, then the statistical analysis will be carried out by means of the SPS Software in order to establish a comparison of the sampling sites based on the analysis of variances of Kruskalwallis with the Mann Whitney test, Air quality distribution maps will be generated in the Cuenca canton. The results will show that concentrations and sound pressure levels exceed the limits stipulated in the regulations, there is dependence on weather variables together with the registered values.
