Project Details

Description

This project will be intended to investigate the scientific basis of the phytochemical, toxicological and pharmacological composition of the analgesic and sedative activity of vegetable origin used in the Saraguro ethnicity. It is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary study where different specialists will participate in each of the thematic areas, supported by students from the different branches. The project will consist of an ethnomedical previous study that gives the pattern or beginning of phytopharmaceuticals used for somatic pain and as a natural sedative; The ancestral positive bases are also considered, consequently, the qualitative determination of the different active ingredients groups, present in the selected plants. In addition, the study of the degree of acute toxicity of each extract obtained through different in vivo techniques will be propelled. The study of sedative and analgesic activities through different experimental animals such as hot dish, formaline and/or rodent acetic acid tests for the determination of the analgesic effect will be completed; While for this purpose its determination will be made through the Irwin test. The project will be adjusted in its execution to an initial period of 12 months, having as projection its indefinite scope; Considering the extension to new geographical areas and cultures therefore with different plant species.
