Description
Cephalometry with lateral skull radiography is a diagnostic method of routine in orthodontic and maxillary orthodontic practice, which under previously established metric standards and proportions, allows to establish an important part of the diagnosis of cephalic skeletal alterations called dentofacial deformities; The aforementioned standards correspond to measures taken from Caucasian individuals, for the most part, so they do not accurately coincide to the average of the measures of the rest of ethnic groups. Through the present research project, it is intended to take a representative sample of the Ecuadorian population, with its different ethnicities, to establish the arithmetic mean of its prono -facial measures and proportions, so that there are standards that represent the normality of each representative ethnicity of Ecuador, and its respective extrapolation to the population of South America. The estimated population sample will consist of 30 individuals per ethnicity and gender from 18 to 30 years of age, without aesthetic, reconstructive and/or/or craniofacial interventions, maxillary orthopedic apparatus or traumatic or syndromic sequelae or syndromic sequela Ricketts through the Dolphin® software, in such a way that the arithmetic mean and standard deviation of measures and proportions per ethnic group with the SPS® program will be obtained through statistical tools; The ethnic groups to study will be, as marked by the Ecuadorian Constitution itself: White, mestizos, Afro -Ecuadorians and indigenous. The project includes a duration of 6 months with an approximate cost of 5,000 dls. American. The impact of knowledge of cephalometric measures has repercussions in fields as important as is maxillary orthodontics and orthopedics, reconstructive surgery and facial aesthetics, even sociocultural sciences such as anthropometry and comparative anatomy.
