Expected seismic damage in non -reinforced brick masonry buildings

This project is proposed to overcome obstacles of an epistemic nature in relation to the estimation of the damage of typical masonry not reinforced brick that were presented in the project scenarios of seismic damage of the built heritage of the Historic Center of Cuenca. The typical buildings were defined based on a study of variability of relevant geometric and mechanical characteristics. Some of its geometric and typological features, among which the asymmetric wall distribution of walls and the remarkable flexibility of the floor systems, gave rise to a modal behavior decoupled with first ways of vibration by wall and total inhibition of torsional modes. To the methods of seismic evaluation of buildings based on Pushover analysis (V.G. N2, capacity spectrum method), whose applicability has been expanded to non -reinforced masonry buildings, meant an important effort to adapt to modal behavior described above. In this proposal, a recent methodology whose robustness, tested by contrast with incremental dynamic analysis results will be used, is a complex procedural strategy. The two most advanced seismic analysis programs (3DMacro and Tremuri) will be used to obtain the capacity curves and the progression of damage to a set of nine buildings. The progression of the damage will be described from the approach of four probable seismic scenarios of increasing intensity. Finally, based on the analysis of the progression of the damage, viable strategies of structural intervention will be proposed.
