Description

The Horticulturists of the San Joaquín parish and the region use chemical pesticides for pest control in their crops indiscriminately. The program intends to find natural alternatives for the control of pests and spread its use between the horticulturists in the area and the region. The Cuenca agency for the development of the region (attending) has proposed to contribute to the solution of problems that prevent or limit the development of the region through accompaniment to artisans, farmers and groups of citizens in the formulation, management, training and execution of projects and development programs. To go has declined that a problem that limits the economic and technological growth of the horticulturists in the area of San Joaquín and other areas of the region is its limited management capacity to generate and look for alternatives to the forms of traditional cultivation and to the commercialization of their products. With this antecedent to attend and carry out a series of efforts to overcome the problems detected in vegetable crops and others in the region. One of the advances towards overcoming this problem is the subscription of an inter -institutional agreement for the development of natural pesticides between the University of Cuenca and the Cuenca agency for the development of the region (go). Within the framework of the University of Cuenca-Acad agreement, the project "Implementation of a plant for microbial agents and a plant to obtain vegetable extracts in crops of the parish of San Joaquín and the region" is executed in the University of Cuenca. Some activities carried out in relation to this project are: Assistance from researchers to training events, bibliographic research, information on national and world market for organic crops, acquisition of glass equipment and material and laboratory adaptation. Due to the importance and magnitude of the problem, the project is reformulated towards a program that allows expanding research towards the application of microbial agents and plant extracts in horticultural crops of the region, training of horticulturists and accompaniment to the communities involved in horticultural crops in management to achieve sustainability of the program. The program formulation process began with meetings with leaders and farmers of the Parish of San Joaquín, local organizations dedicated to organic crops, parochial and cantonal authorities, and efforts with international organizations.
